Voice of the Industry by Sarah Gyde, Glass News

With the move to the NEC the FIT Show 2017 was different to the last one at Telford.  Was it better or worse?  There seemed to be an increase in the investment on stands but did that translate into more visitors?  Was it worthwhile for both visitors and exhibitors?  Will you gain more business and, importantly, would you exhibit at a future FIT Show?

We were at FIT as visitors rather than exhibitors this time, because the timing of the show didn’t fit with our product development programme, so I had a very different perspective. With the move to the NEC, it certainly felt like a bigger show and there were undoubtedly some big, impressive stands, but I’m not sure that entirely translated into there being much more to see.

Coming just a year after the last show, I personally didn’t see anything radically new in terms of hardware, but there was further evidence of the continuing emphasis on smart technology, stainless steel and Approved Document Q.

For me though, the FIT Show was still a great showcase for the industry and the perfect place to meet up with colleagues and competitors and share experiences. There was a really upbeat vibe from everyone I met and the move to the NEC didn’t seem to have impacted on the character of the show as many people had feared it might.
