1M and Counting

Hard to believe that it’s been seven years since we sold our first ProSecure door hinge. Launched at Silverstone race circuit in February 2015, its big USP was the fact that, because it’s supplied in one piece ready to fit straight from the box, it was faster to fit than any other security door hinge on the market. Our Technical Director and TechTalk guru Strafford Cooke was the man behind the challenge to fit the hinge in less than a minute, and you can still see how he did it in the video on the product page here.

With clever features such as virtually jigless preparation, ‘Glider’ technology which lets you slide the whole hinge onto the frame in one piece, and simple, front face Allen key adjustment, it was a success story right from the very beginning. There was even a social media hashtag #freetime promoting all the things that fabricators could do with the time they were saving on fitting hinges!

Arguably, it’s now one of the most iconic Mila products and certainly no one could argue with the sales figures. For the first time, in 2021, we sold a massive 1M units of the ProSecure door hinge as the market for composite doors boomed. Existing customers bought even more, and new customers switched over to the hinge in big numbers as they looked for ways to speed up production when time was such a critical commodity.

As well as the design features which speed up fitting, it clearly ticks all the boxes in terms of winning sales – from the choice of 13 different finishes, to the SBD accreditation, the BSEN1670 Grade 5 corrosion resistance, the 25-year mechanical operation guarantee, and even the reduced amount of packaging waste. Sales are continuing at a similar level this year as well, so it’s possible that we’ll hit the magic 1m again, which would be an incredible achievement.
