The long awaited TS007 security standard for replacement cylinders and associated security hardware has at last become a reality with the backing of the DHF, GGP, BSi and Secured by Design and the vast majority of suppliers, including Mila.

It’s been a really impressive collaborative effort and has resulted in a standard which gives manufacturers, locksmiths, consumers and social housing providers a clear framework to work to.

What I’m particularly pleased about is that the standard doesn’t dictate the type of hardware which can be used to achieve compliance as some of our competitors had wanted.  Instead, it states only that an installation needs to achieve a 3 star rating and allows those who are choosing the hardware to make up those 3 stars as they see fit with a mix of 1, 2 and 3 star cylinders, security guards and security handles.

I think there is now a massive opportunity for fabricators and installers to use TS007 as a selling tool not only in new projects but in retrofit installations – revisiting customers whom they’ve sold to over the past 10 years or so and encouraging them to upgrade the security on their doors.

As well as working with the DHF and Secured by Design on their joint plans to publicise the new standard, we’re putting together a complete programme here at Mila to make sure our customers are ahead of the game.

We’ve got a series of breakfast seminars planned next month which will explain the implications and opportunities for fabricators and installers (register here) and we’re producing sales and marketing packs for customers which will be available to promote TS007 compliant solutions.

Mila’s Technical Manager Strafford Cooke, who was part of the committee who developed the standard, is also putting together a video for the website which gives a useful introduction and overview.

As I see it, TS007 potentially represents a straightforward new sales opportunity for our customers and, with a complete range of compliant products available from Mila, we don’t want any of them to miss out.
